How to Get Hungarian Residency
EU Long-Term Visa in 8 Simple Steps
Astons ensures a smooth residency application process, from making an investment to visa issuance.
Consultation with an Astons Expert
Our specialists assess your situation, conduct a preliminary due diligence check (KYC), and recommend the best investment option for your residency application.
Collection & Preparation of Documents
All required documents must be notarised and apostilled. Astons assists in gathering, verifying, and ensuring full compliance with Hungary’s residency requirements.
Applying for a Hungarian National Visa (if required)
If you are not an EU resident or citizen, you will need to apply for a Hungarian national visa before proceeding with your residency application.
Appointment at the Hungarian Consulate
You must visit the Hungarian Consulate in your country to apply for a Guest Investor Visa, which allows you to travel to Hungary.
- Only the main investor needs this visa.
- Family members will be included in the residency application later under the family reunification program.
- If you already hold EU residency or a visa-free passport, this step is not required.
Issuance of the Guest Investor Visa
Once approved, the visa is affixed to your passport and remains valid for 6 months.
Submission of the Residency Application
Using the guest visa, the main applicant must travel to Budapest to submit the residency application and provide biometrics within three months. This trip is solely for submission and biometrics and usually takes 1–2 days. The investment must be completed no later than three months from the date of the residency application in Budapest.
Fulfilling the Investment Obligations
Upon returning to their country of citizenship/residence, the applicant must visit the Hungarian consulate to submit the family reunification application and sign an agreement with the bank. A brokerage account will then be opened remotely, and the required funds must be transferred to this account.
Residency Issuance
The residency application is processed within 21 days. The production of residence cards takes around 15 days, after which the investor and their family can receive their documents.
